LIFE IN EUROPE’S FIFTH LARGEST LAKE

CLEAR & CLEAN SLOWMOTION

The clear, clean water of the lake has been renowned since ancient times. It is quite common to be able to see down to a depth of 15 metres. The explanation for the clear water is a relatively small catchment area and a large average depth (40 m) which means that Lake Vättern has a retention time of around 60 years. This means that it takes about 60 years for a raindrop that ends up in the lake to eventually reach Motala Ström and the sea.

THE EXHIBIT

It was the clear water and the curiosoty whats lives in lake that inspired us to do an educational art exhibit about the unique lake of Vättern. In collaboration with the County Administrative Board in Jönköping and Photographer Zena Holloway we have produced this exhibit with beautiful pictures and facts about whats in the lake.
