Born in the middle of a city as the middle can be, Westminster City Hospital, London, 1975, and then spent the first twenty-five years of his life in central London.

He has a vivid memory, like a polaroid burned into his memory, of being a young boy, and at certain times the bathroom in the apartment he grew up in would be off-limits for a few hours every once in a while. The smell of chemicals wafted through the air, and a red light glowing through the small gap at the bottom of the door. It was his father, developing black and white 35mm film. This was the first seed of a photographic journey.

A few decades later and he is living in a place that is the polar opposite of a busy metropolis. He lives in Åre, Jämtland, a small mountain village halfway up Sweden. It has been home now for eight years.

He believes that where we live, and our experiences shape us creatively, and living in Jämtland, surrounded by nature and the elements have been a wonderful and inspirational canvas. Hiking up mountains to capture a specific shot, no one else around for miles, waiting for the light to hit the right places, and at that moment feel a connection to the land, and realise that everything in his life, every decision he has ever made has led to that precise moment, and the next action is pressing the shutter button, recording a little sliver of history, of a time that has now passed.

He feels extremely grateful to live in this amazing place with so much history and so many stories to tell. He also feels that he has a unique perspective through his eyes, he is not a native, he did not grow up with this, he grew up in a city.

Darren currently works as a landscape and commercial photographer.
